Incorporated in 1996, the City of Weston is one of South Florida’s most desirable communities and prides itself in quality of lifestyle. Distinctive in visual appearance, the landscape features rows of prestigious Royal Palms and lush foliage. When the need for commuter shelters arose, it was important that they incorporate the elements of design consistent with community values while meeting stringent South Florida wind load requirements.
With concerns that steel structures may be subject to rust, and skeptical that aluminum could meet the wind load requirements, the Studio B team was challenged to design an aluminum structure that would meet all requirements and achieve the design intention incorporating the Royal Palm design into a massive vaulted roof. The result is a strikingly beautiful shelter with full glass panels each etched with the Weston “W”.
