The Bus Stand, a Kidspace at Mass MoCA artist residency project, was designed by artist Victoria Palermo. It is both a functional passenger waiting shelter and a public work of art. Her idea to create an “aesthetic experience” while waiting for a bus is intended to give an emotional lift, to make the day a little better and hopefully bring some happiness to the bus patrons. This is achieved through the interplay of light, color, and the feeling of entering a three-dimensional painting that allows one to view familiar streetscapes through blocks of color.
The Studio B team was proud to work on this project and thrilled to incorporate the same use of color that permeates their design work area with a result that is not only practical, but fun and joyful to the audience.
