There’s a new transit service being offered in San Antonio. The “E” Via Metropolitan Transit was launched last Saturday, March 28th serving the downtown area. The E is a six month pilot program that is provided by the use of trolleys. These trolleys run along Commerce, Market Streets, St. Mary’s and Navarro Streets. It is hard to miss these particularly branded orange-colored trolleys circulating from Tuesday’s through Saturdays from 6 pm to midnight. This new transit systems aims to serve many major entertainment venues, hotels, restaurants, cultural sites, and the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center.
“The E will undoubtedly provide easy connections for people in the central business district, and it will be a great travel option for workers in the area,” said VIA President/CEO Jeff Arndt. “It is just one more piece of the puzzle for a vibrant downtown.” Riders can enjoy this service free of charge.
Many were present on March 28th for the launch which included an inaugural run highlighted by cascarones and mariachis. Mayor Ivy R. Taylor, Councilman Robert Trevino, VIA Board Members and Staff, and community members participated in celebration. “It is just one more piece of the puzzle for a vibrant downtown,” said Arndt.
