Last Friday, a Temple University study for a new transit center was awarded a $10,000 grant by the Troy Local Department Corp.
The study will focus on planning for a “new gateway to the city at Green Island Bridge” according to Timesunion.com. This gateway will extend down to the current location of the bus stop which is known as the Uncle Sam bus stop at Third, Fulton and River Street. The current stop would be replaced by a transit center which will include a transit shelter, traffic light for buses to speed back into service and a designated waiting area for buses.

The New York State Capital District Transportation Authority, which has been deliberating on the removal of Uncle Sam, has not yet gotten into other locations. With plans of creating a Bus Rapid Transit Line similar to the service that currently links Albany and Schenectady, this one will link Troy and Albany. Jamie Watson, a spokeswoman  for CDTA, reported it being “too early” for different locations to be discussed, regarding a new stop to serve as a hub for transit downtown.

According to the CDTA website, ridership has increased to 13 million year to date this fiscal years and officials plan for it to reach 16.5 million by the end.  This makes the fifth year in a row that ridership has increased. ions to be disctly links Albany and Schenectady, this one will link Troy and Albany.
